Jesus and Buddha: The Parallel Sayings, The Golden Rule

Buddha: Consider others as yourself.

Jesus: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  Love thy neighbor as thyself.

Mohammed:  Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you That which you want for yourself, seek for mankind.

The Talmud:  What is hurtful to yourself do not to your fellow man.  That is the whole of the Torah and the remainder is but commentary.

Egyptian Late Period Papyrus:  That which you hate to be done to you, do not do to another.

Epicurus: Neither harm nor be harmed.

Confucius: Never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself.

The Golden Rule is also known as the Ethic of Reciprocity.  It is considered to be the most consistent, moral teaching throughout history.  It is told in story form in the Gospel of Luke in the  Parable of the Good Samaritan.  It has been deemed to be the integral tenet of many of the world’s religions, and officially so in 1993 at the Parliament of World Religions. Today, most countries have some form of Good Samaritan Law.

Every religion emphasizes human improvement, love, respect for others, sharing other people’s suffering. On these lines every religion had more or less the same viewpoint and the same goal.” -The Dalai Lama

Christian morality is not pure. First of all, it does not consider a problem of suffering. In christianity, suffering is even normal, if it is desired by jewish god or some jewish arch-angels. Christianity postulates insane idea of ETERNAL suffering in the lake of fire – for some invisible beings that must be judged by jewish god or son of jewish god. Think about it, ETERNAL suffering! ETERNAL = without an end! Christianity also contain destructive idea of Apocalypse – total destruction of the planet, and the fascist idea of chosen nation, that is, jews — chosen nation by jewish god for salvation. In New Testament of Bible — 144000 jews must be saved before Apocalypse and before total destruction of the planet.

Buddhist dharma is better than hypocritical christian morality. Dharma is pure, logical and clear. Dharma fundamentally states that suffering must be avoided using intellectual solutions, understanding, friendliness, love and compassion. Dharma is the right way to live to achieve harmony.

  4. Ambrocio, B.C. says:

All version of the Golden Rule above is a failure to mankind , that’s why for so many hundred years to now since the first Golden Rule was first ascribe the fighting between neighbors never stop. WHY ? Because if you deeply analyze the Golden Rule, you will discovered that it is “SELF CENTERED” .Therefore , Golden Rule is a SELFISH PHILOSOPHY. You see that … you will only do things to your fellow human beings as what fits your own likings. It’s all “I” or always thinking for your own good. It is not universal. The better substitute therefore for the golden rule is a rule that you do things not just to fit your likings. Good deeds should be done simply because it is the right thing to do so, based on love and fairness.
