There have been international calls for Ms. Suu Kyi's release

In case you’re not in this particular news loop, yesterday, news agencies, the AP and Al Jazeera confirmed that a verdict was handed down convicting Burma’s pro- democracy leader, Suu Kyi, to 18 more months of house arrest.

Well, today, in an unprecedented move by a key group of Burma’s South East Asian neighbors, a statement condemning the conviction of this Burmese icon has been issued:

“We assume the judgment is totally wrong according to the law,” states a lawyer of the their legal team.  Bravo.  I am heartened to see any group publicly come out with a statement against oppression, especially in an atmosphere of such great repression.  I can only hope that other groups follow suit.  Democracy is a precious thing and makes me appreciate the privileges I enjoy that much more, (including writing this blog).
