Dalai Lama’s Meditation Instruction

seven2

The Dalai Lama told his students that their “backs should be straight as an arrow” and “if you cannot stop the laziness of being disinclined to cultivate concentration and of enjoying things that are not conductive to it, from the outset you will not gain entry into concentration; even if you do attain it once, you will be unable to sustain it, so it will quickly deteriorate. Therefore, it is most crucial to stop laziness in the beginning. His Holiness used the words “baby steps” throughout his six day lessons. As he explained, “Enlightenment is best when it is slow and gradual, sudden epiphany seldom last.”

I traveled a long way to listen to this lecture. Teachings by H.H. the Dalai Lama on Tibetan Buddhism and other  lectures can be listened to in your home for free. Also,His Holiness has written a book to help with meditation called Stages of Meditation.
