Daily Dharma Quote: Proverbs on Friendship

Cat and monkey make friends.

Cat and monkey make friends.

Yesterday was one of those incredible days which began with laughing with an old friend and ended in crying with a new one. It left me feeling extremely lucky in friendship. To that end, I’d like to share a few quotes on that elusive topic of friendship:

“Only your real friends will tell you when your face is dirty.” ~ Sicilian Proverb

“Hold a true friend with both your hands.”

~ Nigerian Proverb

“Friends are relatives you make for yourself.”

~ Eustache Deschampe

Hands held in friendship.

Hands held in friendship.

“She is a friend of mind. She gather me, man. The pieces I am, she gather them and give them back to me in all the right order. It’s good, you know, when you got a woman who is a friend of your mind.”

~ Toni Morrison, Beloved

“Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art…It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.”

~ C.S. Lewis

And finally, possibly my favorite:

“The friend is the man who knows all about you and still likes you.”

~ Elbert Hubbard, The Notebook, 1927

Go forth. Enjoy your weekend. Make new friends, but don’t forget about the old.

Namasté
