You Take It With You

“Let him go where he will, he can only find so much beauty or worth as he carries.”

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

I have a fantasy that involves, packing up my belongings, purchasing a one- way ticket from British Airways and flying across the Atlantic to a town far, far, away.  London actually; the town of my birth.  Why?  Because on days like yesterday, I tell myself that I’m through with this place.  With these people.  With this job.  With this state.  With this country.

This is known as seeking a “geographical cure”, in some circles.  It will change nothing except my forwarding address.  Today’s quote is a reminder to me that I must remember my new mantra (or at least the one for today): ”I carry it with me.”  I am an empty vessel, but all that I am: my happiness, grief, loves and frustrations.  I carry them in me.

Ah man, T.G.I.F.
