‎It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.

"And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes."

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery sold 90 million copies making it one of the 10 best selling books of all time!  Recapturing the honesty and simplicity of childhood is the central lesson of the story. Though supposedly a book for children, The Little Prince makes many profound observations about life and human nature appropriate for adults.  It was published in 1943, one year before the author literally disappeared into the blue somewhere over the Mediterranean.

The Little Prince is the story of  a little boy’s examination of the thoughtless and absurd elements of adulthood.  It is told in the direct and heartfelt manner of a child.  After all, “Trying to be witty leads to lying, more or less.”  It examines themes everyone can utilize to make their life more worth living.

The fox explains to the Little Prince why his rose is so important to him, “It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.” This shows the importance of how we spend our time.  Whatever we spend most of our time doing, whether  it is work, watching television or playing video games,  then these things become the most important things in our lives. If we spend time studying, in contemplation, or with our friends and family, they become the most important things in our lives.

Like the Little Prince, we must learn to be mindful of our time and our actions.  After all, that’s the stuff life is made of.
