Public Enemy #1, Ignorance

Ignorance, Public Enemy number one. In this teaching Lama Sumati Marut talks about ignorance. How we all are ignorant about the true nature of reality. As little kids we said, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” However, on some level we are ignorant of this. Because when that provocative person gets in our face and says something about our mother we immediately get worked up, when really what they say can only affect us if we let it. Another thing to think about is who wants to be around a grump? Most people tend to shy away from people who are angry or complaining all the time. In addition scientific studies have shown that people who get worked up all the time die sooner. When you think about this it makes sense, your heart beats faster, your muscles tense up, your blood vessels contract and your blood pressure skyrockets.
